Frequently Asked Questions
Alerts & Notifications
Why didn't I receive my SMS alert?
Several things can prevent SMS delivery:
-
Opted out — if you or someone at your number replied STOP to a previous LMKwhen message, SMS delivery is blocked. Check Settings → Notifications for an amber warning on your number. Click Re-enable SMS alerts to restore delivery.
-
Quota reached — your plan has a monthly SMS limit. Check your usage in Settings → Notifications. Upgrade in Settings → Billing if you've hit your limit.
-
Number not verified — unverified numbers don't receive alerts. Complete verification in Settings → Notifications.
-
Alert didn't fire — the condition may not have been met for your location. Check the Alerts page to see what fired and when.
How quickly do I receive alerts?
- NWS watches/warnings — typically within 1 to 3 minutes of NWS issuance
- SPC outlooks — within minutes of SPC publishing updates
- NDFD forecasts — checked on a scheduled basis throughout the day, not real-time. Expect alerts within an hour of a forecast update that crosses your threshold.
What's the difference between a watch and a warning?
A watch means conditions are favorable for the hazard to develop — broader area, longer lead time. A warning means the hazard is imminent or occurring — take action now. An advisory covers less serious conditions that may cause inconvenience.
Forecast Products
Why does my forecast alert show "Day 0" instead of "today"?
NDFD uses 06:00 UTC as the day boundary, not midnight. In US Central time, the day rolls over around 1–2am (1am CST, 2am CDT). After midnight but before that rollover, LMKwhen still shows Day 0 for the current forecast period. This matches how NWS forecasters define forecast days.
How often are NDFD forecasts updated?
NWS updates NDFD grids multiple times per day. LMKwhen ingests these updates on a regular schedule. You'll receive a new alert if a forecast update causes your threshold to be crossed for the first time that day.
Locations & Rules
Can I get alerts for multiple locations?
Yes. Add as many locations as your plan allows. Alert rules apply to all locations automatically — when any location matches a rule's condition, you receive an alert identifying the specific location affected.
Check Settings → Billing for your location limit.
Can I apply different rules to different locations?
Currently, alert rules apply across all your locations. Per-location rule scoping is on the roadmap.
Account & Billing
How do I add team members?
Go to Settings → Members → Invite. Enter your team member's email address. They'll receive an invitation to join your organization. Each member configures their own notification preferences.
What happens when my trial expires?
Your locations and alert rules are preserved. Write access is blocked — you can't add new locations or rules until you upgrade. No data is deleted. Upgrade anytime in Settings → Billing.
How do I connect Slack?
Go to Settings → Notifications → Connect Slack. Authorize LMKwhen in your workspace and choose which channel receives alert notifications. Each organization can connect one Slack workspace.
